Hola Barcelona

Placa Espana

It feels like just yesterday when we were running around the streets of Barcelona and taking in everything the city had to offer - in just 10 days. Our Major Field Studies course may have started and ended close to 4 months ago, but the memories are still fresh in my mind. As I go through my sketchbook, each and every drawing seems to come to life with a very distinct memory to go with it. More than that, each and every pencil or pen mark was a step into analysis and understanding of what I was in front of me. Through sketching, I discovered the cleverness and detail that went into the beautiful architecture of Barcelona. It all became clear to me why buildings designed by architects such as Gaudi and Mies Van der Rohe are so renowned. There is something about Barcelona that makes it so personable, perhaps it's the context - the mountains and the ocean - or the mix of buildings that illustrate the city's rich history. All I know is that this experience has shaped me as a designer and given me a new perspective and appreciation for how we can positively shape our built environment. I hope that one day I will get to say hola to Barcelona once again.
